Good foliage and free bloomer. # each; 3 for # 7038 OFFICINALIS RUBRA— Very early. Rich and brilliant deep crimson, double flowers. It blooms near Decoration Day at altitudes of 4,000 feet and higher. The plant is of low habit but thrifty and a very depend- able bio omer. # each; 3 for # 7045 PHILLIPPE RIVOIRE— Early Mid- season. One of the highest rated red peonies. The fine double blooms are very dark crimson with a blackish sheen that does not fade. They are most fragrant of all red peonies, having the distinctive perfume of the Gruss An Tep- litz rose. Medium height and strong wiry stems. # each; 3 for # SUCCESS WITH PEONIES Peonies may remain and thrive in one spot for from 10 to 20 years. For this reason it is desirable to thoroughly prepare the soil to a depth of 18 to 24 inches. The addition of humus in the form of rotted manure, compost or peat moss is most important. When using compost or peat moss a balanced commercial fertilizer should also be added. Manure should not be allowed to come into direct contact with the roots.
