It was also ordered that a Gold Medal, bearing suitableemblems and inscriptions, be made and presented to Gen. Grant in token ofnational gratitude. The State of New York also passed resolutions of thankswhich were engrossed upon the official records and deposited among theState Archives. In early February, Congress revived the grade of Lieutenant General,and President Lincoln immediately nominated Gen. Grant to that Senate confirmed the appointment without debate, and Gen.
