Gate 30 Bridge, Quabbin Reservoir, New Salem, Massachusetts


This image shows the keystone bridge built over the middle branch of the Swift River in New Salem, Massachusetts, The River is flowing toward the Quabbin Reservoir, source of drinking water for much of Eastern Massachusetts. The bridge was built in 1866 by Adolphus Porter, a wounded Civil Ware Veteran. It was built for $55 and built without any concrete or cement. The image was taken in early fall and the aspect ratio is of a panorama.
