Garnerin's parachute design. This is the design for the first parachute of the French balloonist Andre Jacques Garnerin (1769-1823), and includes a scale. The three illustrations show the top of the deployed parachute (left), the parachute before release from an ascending balloon (middle) and the parachute after release (right). Garnerin performed the first parachute descent in Mousseuax Park, Paris, France, on 22 October 1797.
