Dunmow Essex Uk. Flitch trials. This event goes back to Anglo Saxon times and is held every 4 years. Married couples appear before a mock court to show that they have never quarrelled. Succesful couples are awarded a flitch of bacon. The Flitch of Bacon is half a pig. Unsuccessful couples are awarded a gammon of bacon. Counsel appear for either the applicants or the bacon.
