Brain cancer radiotherapy. 70-year-old woman with a malignant brain tumour (cancer) undergoing radiotherapy with a linear accelerator X-ray machine in a hospital. This machine is a linear accelerator (LINAC) that emits high-energy X-ray radiation as part of radiotherapy to treat diseases such as cancer. The machine is positioned over the patient and radiation is focused on the tumour site, and used to disrupt and kill the cancer cells. The patient is wearing a rigid radiotherapy mask that is custom-made to hold the patient's head in position while the treatment is carried out. Markings and guide lasers (green) help position the patient and direct the radiation. This is a Clinac machine from Varian medical systems. Photographed in the UK.
