Banco Santander and the unions have agreed this Thursday to leave 3,572 employees in Spain and the transfer or relocation of 1,500 in other group companies, 400 of them in Santander Personal. The bank has justified this plan, which will entail the closure of between 900 and 1,000 branches in Spain of a total of about 3,100 offices, for economic and organizational reasons, after verifying that the pandemic has accelerated the relationship with customers through digital channels. The ERE will also entail the closure of 1,033 branches in Spain, out of a total of some 3,100 branches. The entity has promised to accept practically all applications from people over 58 years of age with a maximum of 10% rejections, as well as to give priority to those over 55 who have requested voluntary membership in the 2019 ERE and do it again now. It has also agreed to exclude affected spouses or partners from the ERE in the EREs carried out at the bank in 2017 and 2019.
