Exposed coral reef on Asu Island in the Hinako archipelago, North Sumatra, Indonesia
Exposed dead coral reef shoreline of Asu Island in the Hinako Island archipelago in the Indian ocean off North Sumatra. The entire island was elevated up to two meters after the March 28, 2005 magnitude earthquake off the coast of North Sumatra, with its epicenter very close to Asu Island. This resulted in most of the reef surrounding the island becoming permanently exposed and therefore it was unable to survive.
