A Canadian National Railway locomotive leading an intermodal freight train southbound crossing of the tracks of the Canadian Pacific Railway as night descends on the scene. The crossing of the two lines is at Spaulding Junction where the communities of Elgin and Bartlett, Illinois also meet. As with all such railway junctions in the United States in the United States, crossings are protected by signals in all directions. One such signal example can be seen just to the left of the oncoming train. The locomotive's head and ditch lights provide a bright beacon adding a measure of further safety.
