TROLLEY LINE SECTION INSULATOR To meet the demand for a sturdy trolley line section insu-lator, with renewable wearing parts, the Westinghouse Electric& Manufacturing Company has developed the new form typeKB which is shown in the accompanying cuts. A No. 0000phono-electric wire has been broken on a jerk without anysign of failure in any part of this insulator. The tension is taken by two %-in. x 3-in. hickory bars. Ver-. Side View tical slots are provided in these, and projections from the endcastings engage in the slots. The stress is thus transmitted tothe hickory bars without the bolts assuming any shearingstresses. The bolts serve only to clamp the end castings to thebars. Sherardized malleable-iron caps inclose the ends of thehickory bars to protect them against splitting and injury fromwild trolley wheels.
