The ultimate consequences of society in Virginiaand New England was seen after the Revolution, when for the first timethe different communities had the opportunity of directing without foreignrestraint the government of their country. Virginia became the head-quarters of the Democratic Republican party of popular ideas, and NewEngland that of the Federalist party—the party of aristocratic ideas.
