Aries, the Ram, being the first of the twelve constellations assigned an astrological sign of the Zodiac (21 March to 19 April). One of twelve inlaid marble panels decorating Bianchini's Meridian Line in the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, Rome (1702). They are positioned either side of the line at intervals of 30 degrees longitude and are the work of Francesco Tedeschi, who based them on the drawings of Jacobo de Gehn that were published in Bayer's Uranometria (1603), the celestial atlas which introduced the modern method of naming stars.
