McBride described andexhibited A New Apparatus for Maintaining the Lithotomy Position,I desire to present to the Society thisevening an apparatus I have designed for thepurpose of supporting the limbs and main-taining the lithotomy It consists of a piece of hard, elasticwood, preferably ash or hickory, f of an inchthick, 1 inch wide, 36 inches long, bent ateach end in a semicircle of 6 inches diam-eter, or a semicircumference of 10i inches,thus leaving a shaft of 15 inches betweenthe semicircles, and making the length ofthe finished instrument 27 inches (6 + 15+ 6). To the shaft, 2 inches from each end, abuckle is immovably fastened by means ofleather. In using the apparatus, the thighs areflexed on the abdomen and put in the semi-circles, the band is placed around the neckand fastened to the buckles. The advantages are apparent. Its cheap-ness places it within the reach of every thoroughness with which it does itswork, keeping the patient immovably in thelithotomy position, and maintaining the samerelative position o
