In some cases it will be necessary to cut andfill so as to avoid excessive grades. However, sincethese paths must be made cheaply and bicycle riderscan walk up an occasional steep place, or by extra exer-tion overcome steep places, it is not practicable tochange the grades as much as in making a track for wagons. The path can beconstructed in a very sim-ple manner. In many casesthe sod should be removedand an excavation made afew inches deep.
