In the intervals between nursing, a lead shield should be worn toprotect the abrasions from coming into contact with the clothing or mammary binder. The nipple shouldbe washed after each nursing,thoroughly dried and one of the follow-ing preparations applied to it: a powder containing powdered boracic acid, calomel, andtannin, equal parts; a powder containing powdered boracic acid and acetanalid, equalparts, or an ointment consisting of bismuth subnitrate and castor oil, equal parts (Hirst)..
