JohnMcCormick, who had married his daughter Eliza-beth, subsequently purchased the part that fell to her brother Joseph. This was the part commonlyknown as the Point, lying immediately westof the junction of the with the BaldEagle. Here he lived the rest of his earthly life, andhere, too, he died at the good old age of Among the eventful scenes in which he partici-pated was the Big Runaway, which occurred inJune, 1778. In due time the fugitives returned, andMr. McCormick returned with them. From this toits close his life was smooth and tranquil, and adornedwith uprightness and usefulness. A family of fivesons and two daughters grew up around him. The Great Island Presbyterian Church of LockHaven, of which he was a member, has still in itspossession a subscription paper, showing the provisionthat was made for the support of the gospel in theyear 1788. The heading of it is as follows: We, the subscribers, do promise to deliver at thehouse of Robert Fleming, or David Hannah, thequantity of wheat, rye, and corn that is annexed toeach of our names on or before the 1st day of Feb-ruary next.
