The battle of Heligoland is fought on May 9 , 1864, during the second war of the Duchies and opposes the Danish navy to an allied Austro-Prussian fleet, in the south of the then British island of Heligoland  in the North Sea. This was the last significant battle fought between squadrons of wooden ships and also the last involving Denmark. Although the battle ended in a tactical victory for that country, it had no strategic impact on the outcome of the war which ended in the Danish defeat on May 12, 1864.
