F. Muller and subsequent writers on Scandinavianconchology. Every naturalist will appreciate the ad-vantage of such an undertaking, being aware that ourown fauna or flora cannot be properly studied apartfrom that of the rest of Europe. These preliminaryremarks are offered to explain the cause of delay inthe appearance of the present volume, and likewise toexpress my grateful acknowledgments for the kindwelcome and aid which I received from all the leadingzoologists in the countries above mentioned.
