Tesla high-frequency condenser. Historical illustration of the condenser for an alternator producing high-frequency current. The design was by Serbian-US inventor Nikola Tesla (1856-1943). The condenser was immersed in a fluid such as oil. When operated at 3000 revolutions per minute (rpm), the alternator produced electric current of about 200 volts at a frequency of 9600 to 10,000 Hertz. Artwork from 'Electricite' (1911) by Max de Nansouty, part of the 'Les merveilles de la science' series of 1867-1891 by Louis Figuier.
