Synthesising gold colloid for use in SERSs or SERRS application. The reaction is almost complete with the votex of colloid turning from gold to black. Whole system acts as a marker. Enables detection of very small or diluted particles. Each molecule in a solution for detection has a different characteristic spectrum. With the addition of a gold or silver colloid, to a roughened surface, the SERs signal produced is greatly enhanced. This signal is read by a 534 nm or nanometer neon laser. With a number of different molecules in solution mixture, each can be detected by deconvoluting the data using specialist software after analysis by the excitation laser. This produces various energy levels in the molecules of interest. The laser light is reflected back to produce these energy levels for detection. A polymer can be used as a coating to protect the gold or silver SERRs substrate and the marker. Technology can be adapted to an application.
