I Should like very much to hear from that Quarters a gane if it is convenient with you I will Just Say that we have not Don much But Drill Since my Arival I Have Been on one little Scout the night of the 22ond of march we was shipd on the Steamer Swallow for up the River passing Chicasaw [word unclear] waterloo And landed [word unclear] Springs some too miles out in the country But found no enemy we then Returned and took the Boat for the Seven mile Island where we Remaned till the morning of the 23rd, the Boys was all a Stir Early and the Island was thoroughly patroled from one end to the other [ga?]thering up all the Stock that the Rebs had left on it they Had got wind of our coming and was Busy the greater part of the night taking them of the Island But we got enough to pay us very well for going they fierd from the Bank of the River at us But we Soon Returned the compliment and they mooved Back out of Reach of our guns and left us a lont till we a compleshed our work then we left for Down the River we was as far up the River as far as the Sholes within three miles of florence I was inhopes that we would go in to florence for it is Sayd to Be a prety place and has not Ben visited much By Soldiers Sisters I would try to give you a Small Idea of the grain and forage that has Ben Destroyed at this at this post By high water But it is So large that it is not worth my while there was a Bout 800 Eight hundred wagons and Ambulances went of with the flood the River has Been very hig[h] all the Spring it is falling very fast now the weather is very pleasant and warm at present the Regiment is Recruiting very fast there was 11 Eleven Recruit
