If the collapsed boat be extended, theoars are released, an oval thwart fitted withcross-thwarts slides into position, and other partsdrop into their places automatically. Many exhaustive tests of the boat have beenmade by English and American authoiities,and its stability has been tried from the UnitedStates ship Illinois in the open sea during a re-cent eight months cruise in the Mediterranean,while in the Boston Navy Yard it was droppedinto the sea from a height of 28 feet without.
