Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus (1466 - 1536), known as Erasmus of Rotterdam, was a Dutch Renaissance humanist, Catholic priest, theologian and classical scholar. This copy has been censored by members of the Spanish Inquisition. They mutilated the title and deleted offending passages by pasting paper over them or blacking them out. Their notations state that the work has been expurgated to conform to the Index of the Cardinal of Granada.
