RAF Typhoon jet fighter of 29 Squadron (badged XXX) taking off in full re-heat (afterburner) and tucking up its undercarriage. Royal Air Force plane
RAF Typhoon of 29 Squadron taking off in full re-heat (afterburner) and tucking up its undercarriage. The RAF's Eurofighter Typhoons provide the UK's first line of defence and are at constant armed readiness to scramble to intercept approaching military aircraft and also suspect civilian aircraft. A number of such incidents have led to RAF Typhoons going supersonic over the UK resulting in sonic booms. The 29 Sqn badge is confusingly XXX. The historical saying goes that a painter was asked to paint 'XX and one X' ie XXIX =29, but the painter put XX and another X = XXX !
