English customs and traditions - An 1845 engraving depicting the traditional feast and festivities after sheep shearing had been completed (usually in June / July). Since medieval times when the English wool trade was one of the most important parts of the English economy. The midsummer sheep shearing traditionally culminated with in the sheep-shearing feast following the washing of the sheep.
