The new Glyndebourne Opera House. It cost £33 million and work began just two weeks after the final gala of the 1992 season. The entire old theatre was flattened. There was no opera at Glyndebourne itself in 1993 (although the company did perform a short season at London’s Royal Festival Hall). The new theatre was officially opened in 1994 with a brand-new production of Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. 31 January 1994 Picture by Roger Bamber
