He visited in the year 1628 the colonyVirginia and received upon his return to Erglandfrom his sovereign the promise of a grant of terri-tory in the region which he had just visited, butbefore his Charter was signed he died, (April 15th,1632). leaving his titles and estates to his eldest son,Cecilius Calvert, II. Lord Baltimore.
