Marines engage in combat with Viet Cong near a village during the Vietnam War. On February 2, 1966, the battalion rear of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment was under attack. A Provisional Company, consisting of the 1st Battalion, 12th Regiment, retaliated by firing heavy artillery and launching a sweep operation to capture 12 Viet Cong fighters who were attempting to escape. The Marines pictured here are taking cover as they return fire.
