Each unit consists of a 5500-volt,three-phase synchronous motor with a 250-volt genera-tor connected to each end of the shaft. These generatorsare used as shunt machines in series across the two outercircuits of the 460-volt three-wire lighting system while forthe railway supply they are provided with series windingsfor compounding.
