Greek mosaic. Second or third century mosaic that depicts the arrival of Aesclepius (upper centre, the Greek god of healing) to the island of Kos. He is being greeted by a citizen of Kos (lower right) and Hippocrates, the most celebrated doctor in antiquity. Mosaics are constructed from small coloured cubes of stone and were common in ancient Greek homes of affluent citizens. It is housed in the Archaeological Museum of Kos, Greece.
