Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, Cabo Frio, Praia do Forte, Fort Beach

Cabo Frio is a 2 to 3 hour drive from Rio de Janeiro with a population approximately 155,000. Plenty of water sports and other activities plus plenty of night life. Quaint small towns nearby such as Arraial de Cabo with isolated tropical beaches. Most of the tourists visiting Cabo Frio are Brazilians, obviously a great deal from Rio de Janeiro but also popular with people from the cities of Minas Gerais and Brasilia. It is starting to become a little more known to foreign tourisits and some cruise ships now make a stop here. There are some tourist attractions in the city. These include the Feliciano Sodré bridge, the Nossa Senhora da Guia chapel, the church of São Benedito, the Nossa Senhora da Assunção church and the Municipal Theatre. There are 9 beaches in Cabo Frio (see list below), the most recommended are - Praia do Pero ( many sand dunes here, watch out for beach buggies), Praia das Conchas, Praia Brava, Praia do Forte( close to town centre, very full, lot of activity) and Praia dos Dunas ( this is an isolated and environmental protected area). Cabo Frio has a tropical climate, and is frequented by abroholos in the summer months. In the last years the population increased, with investments obtained by the municipality with oil royalties from Petrobras, and an elevated number of retired citizens coming from Rio de Janeiro city. Cabo Frio is famous for their outstanding shrimp pasta that is featured in many travel magazines. The main beach, the Forte Beach, has 4 km of white sand. Its name comes from the Portuguese Fortress of the 16th century situated in the north rock. The Buzios municipality is only 15 km away, with very exclusive and sophisticated nightlife.
