Globular cluster Palomar 1, Hubble Space Telescope (HST) image. Globular clusters are amongst the oldest objects in a galaxy. The contain only old stars, with no gas present to fuel the formation of any new stars. Palomar 1 is a relatively young globular cluster at between and 8 billion years old. It is located in the constellation Cepheus around 800 light years from Earth. Data obtained by the Advanced Camera for Surveys on the HST.
