That extremely fine artist, Nathaniel Hone,, has three portraits here, that of himselfbeing remarkably clear and of more interest thanthe other two. The latter are respectivelyHorace Walpole, the bitter critic, and Wesley, founder of the well-known sectwhich bears his name, and are both admirable^paintings. But Hone probably succeeded better. Lawren--son, who flourished during the last century, very good work as a portrait painter, andleft a son, William Lawrenson, who becameequally eminent in the same branch of than either, however, was Hugh DouglasHamilton, , whose portrait of LadyTemple is worthy of all admiration. Hamiltonsworks are much sought after now, as they arerightly considered of superior excellence.
