At c may beseen one of the elongated, slightly-curved, yellow eggs, considerablymagnified, with an opaque, granu-lated cap at the upper end : d is amore highly magnified view ofthis cap. The eggs hatch early insummer into young crickets bear-ins: a general resemblance to theadults, though without feed upon plant-lice andother insects during their entireexistence, being consequently inthis way friends rather than foesof the fruit-grower.
