Memorial Cross erected by Queen Victoria to Lady Augusta Stanley in Frogmore Gardens with the Royal Mausoleum In Sight


The memorial cross to to Lady Augusta Stanley 1822-1876 who was the servant and devoted friend of the Duchess of Kent and Queen Victoria. An extract of the inscription legible in the image reads "This cross erected by Queen Victoria in grateful and affectionate remembrance of her faithful labours for 30 years". The cross faces the steps leading to the mausoleum of the Duchess in the gardens at Frogmore in the Home Park at Windsor, although here the Royal Mausoleum of Victoria & Albert is seen in the background. The gardens were designed originally in 1793 by Major William Price, but much reworked thereafter.
