This command and control bunker was built in the center of the Rock of Gibraltar It originates from 1870 when the Falmouth, Gibraltar and Malta Telegraph Company laid a submarine cable to the Rock and beyond, it is more than 500 meters underground. Later during WWII it was converted into the Joint Operational Communications Centre. It was steadily expanded after the War and became a NATO Communications Center (CommCen) to a facilitate over 50 rooms. In 2008 it was closed down and relocated to Faslane. Dwight Eisenhower planned Operation Torch in WWII from here.
