Chaotic terrain west of the Dead Sea
Chaotic terrain west of the Dead Sea viewed from Masada Mountain in Masada National Park, Israel. The multiple channels with remnant mesa-like structures are formed by water run-off from the high ground west of the Dead Sea. The sea itself, visible at top, is about 430 metres below mean sea level and it is the lowest inland sea in the world. Its shoreline has, however, been receding for many years.
