IMMUNE SYSTEM

Illustration of the destruction of foreign cells by the immune system. Each cell has a specific identity, shown on the surface by markers. When the lymphocyte receptors (purple) don’t recognise these markers, they consider the cells to be foreign (pink) and trigger the immune system to destroy them by producing perforin. These lymphocytes send a chemical message to macrophages (green) so that they will eliminate the rest of the destroyed cells.
