Comet Garradd and globular cluster M71, photographed with 80 mm refractor
Comet Garradd (lower blurry object) and globular cluster M71, photographed with 80 mm refractor and Canon 40D camera on 26 August 2011. A combination of four 25-sec exposures. This is an example of a typical fairly bright comet that is visible with small telescopes or binoculars but which does not reach naked-eye visibility. South is at the top, as seen in astronomical telescopes. The field of view is 1 degree. The comet was discovered in 2009 by Australian astronomer Gordon Garradd. It is seen in the constellation of Sagitta in August 2011. Credit Robin Scagell/Galaxy
