This scene from Book X of the Iliad shows Odysseus and Diomedes stealing Rhesus' horses in a night raid on the Thracian's camp.

The great Trojan War, fought between the Greeks and the Trojans, is believed to have been fought around 1184 Among the great Greek heroes were Odysseus (also known as Ulysses) and Diomedes. Fighting for the Trojans was Rhesus, king of Thrace. The two epics by the Greek bard Homer (fl. c. 700 ), the Iliad, and the Odyssey, center on the war and the journey of Odysseus back home to Ithaca. This scene, based on English sculptor and draughtsman John Flaxman's designs, depicts the scene in Book X of the Iliad when Odysseus and Diomedes steal the horses of Rhesus in a night raid on the Thracian's camp.
