Hydroxylamine : its quantitative determination and some double salts . .KMn04 Ti Solutiontaken used 1 .0171 .0175 25 CO. c,c. 2 .0074 .0072 15 c c. 3 .0390 .0468 80 c: c. 4 .0254 .0131 50 5 .0275 .0264 35 6 .0351 .0324 50. CO. 7 .0340 .0324 8 .0149 .0145 20 CO. In number three the result is too high and in number fourfar too low, this error is very likely du© to conditions, either thehydroxylamine hydro-chloride and titanium solution did not stand longenough to thoroughly react or an excess of titanium solution was notadded and the action was between the permanganate and the hydroxyla-mine. The best results were obtained when the salt was allo?/ed toreact for five minutes or more in a rather strong sulphuric acid solution and in an atmosphere of carbon dioxide before titration withpermanganate. Another method ,not before worked out is the reduction ofchromic salts. The reduction was carried out in the absence of ox-. -10- ygen and aBnumed to be similar to ferric sulphate reduction. 2Cr2(30^)3 + SNHgOH = 4CrS04 + 2HgS04+ NgO +H2O, although noneof the gases were analyzed. An excess of the chromic salt was addedto a weighed amount of the hydroxylamine hydrochloride, then thechromous salt formed was titrated with known permanganate. The hy-droxylamine salt and the chromic sulphate were allowed to stand forsome time in a carbon dioxide atmosphere, the solution was heatedto boiling to drive off the oxides of nitrogen assiamed to be pres-ent because when the solution is not heated the reduction power isincreased very much. This metliod is simple yet accurate, decidedend point being brought out in the green chromate solution by thepermanganate. No. of Wt. Wt.
