Pedestrians walk through 's Gate, Norwich, Norfolk


St Ethelbert's Gate, built 1316. in city of Norwich. One of the two principal gates leading from Tombland into the cathedral close (the other built by Sir Thomas Erpingham), the Ethelbert Gate was built in the early 14th century at the cost of the citizens as part of a settlement with the cathedral, and particularly in recompense for the burning down of St. Ethelbert's church during the 1272 riot.
