Pithoi storage jars on display in situ in the Minoan city of Phaestos in south central Crete. They were used to store wine, oil, olives and grain.

There was a settlement on the site since about 4000 BC although the first palace dates from 2000 BC. After a series of disasters and destruction the palace was finally sdestroyed by invading Achaens around 1400 BC, about the same time as the destruction of Knossos.
