The National September 11 Memorial to the 3000 people killed in the 11 September 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon
The National September 11 Memorial to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks, including destruction of the World Trade Center Twin Towers. The Memorial’s twin reflecting pools each feature the largest manmade waterfalls in North America, and each pool sits within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood. The memorial was designed by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect Peter Walker. The names of every person who died in the attacks are inscribed into the bronze panels edging surrounding the Memorial pools. Roses are placed upon victim's names on their birth date. Visitors also plant flags on victims names. The memorial opened on the day after the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
