It was carved by Paul Sivell in 2009, assisted by Oliver Adams and is the tallest tree sculpture carved in situ - standing and scaffolded - of a sweet chestnut tree. It describes a timeline of local history including Viking details, musical notes from the Bestival, nearby Roman villa and references to Christianity, the Normans, pirates, smuggling, and the poets Keats and Tennyson.
