Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Acinetobacter baumannii bacteria. A. baumannii is a Gram-negative, oxidase negative, aerobic, coccobacillus. It is naturally resistant to multiple antibiotics and continues to develop resistance to new drugs. It causes various nosocomial (hospital-acquired) infections, including, skin and wound infections, pneumonia, meningitis, septicaemia, urinary tract infections and endocarditis. It is commonly found in soil, water, sewage, and normal skin and gastrointestinal tract flora. Magnification: x13,000 when printed at 15cm wide.
