Hagia Sophia (Turkish: Ayasofya), officially Ayasofya-i Kebir Cami-i ?erifi literally Holy Mosque of Hagia Sophia the Grand, and formerly the Church of Hagia Sophia. The centre door, called the 'Royal Door.' In Byzantine times there were only a couple of days a year when it was opened as only the Emperor could pass through it on special days. Istanbul, Turkey.
