Near Kings-arms stairs in College-street, in 1694-, after agreat flood, was found a gold ring, weighing the value of fortyshillings, which was left near the sand in the bank ; it was shewnto the Society of Antiquaries by Mr. Theobald in The inscription (in old French) on the seal part, round a dovewith an olive-branch in his mouth, which falls over his back, CDenci tie mop,—Think of me. Within the circle, Deboncor,—With heart, or heartily. The road that runs parallel with the river is now called Bel-videre-road, and is undergoing great improvements, by takingdown the old buildings, and substituting new and elegant housesin their stead. The former appellation of this place was Nar-row Wall, to distinguish it from Broad Wall, which runs fromthe river, and protected the ground in Christ-church parishfrom the Marsh. Belvidere-road, or Narrow Wall, is an ancient way, as it isdepicted in old views of London, 1588 ; as is Vine-street andthe Cornwall-road ; but no houses seem to have been on eitherof them, with the exception of a few in and about Vine-street. In 1704-, Jacob Vanlee, alias Valentine Vanlee, gave fouralms-houses on Narrow Wall
