Fern Sumpter Winbush, the principal deputy director for the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA), screens dirt with Army Sgt. Clarence Balansi, a DPAA recovery noncommissioned officer, during a recovery mission in England, May 25, 2022. Winbush’s visit consisted of tours of the recovery team’s life support investigator station, wet screen station and site excavation. DPAA’s mission is to achieve the fullest possible accounting for missing and unaccounted-for personnel to their families and our nation.
