Dupuytrens contracture after surgery. Close-up of the hand of a 70-year-old male patient following surgery to correct Dupuytrens contracture. This condition causes one or more fingers to become fixed in a bent position. It occurs when tissue in the palm of the hand thickens and shortens (palmar fibromatosis), preventing the tendons attached to the fingers from moving freely. Surgery attempts to free the tendons, but does not always work.
